Linda- "Zahava"

The enchantment of the dance has captivated this dancer since 1974. A belief that the dance must never be separated from a knowledge of the music and customs of the Middle East has led her to instruction from master teachers such as Jamila and Suhaila Salimpour, Ghanima Gaditana, Mimi and Lesandre, Aida Al Adawi, Maya, D’Vorah, Ibrahim Farrah, Elena, Serena, Morocco, Elektra, Katarina Burda, Suheyla, Dahlena, Carol Shannon, Faruk and Susie Tekbilek, Eddie “the Shiek”

Kochak, Gypsy Caravan, Amaya, Suzanne Delveccio & Cassandra, to name a few, across the U.S., Canada and Morocco.

Zahava’s style has been influenced by all aspects of danse orientale including Tunisian, Moroccan, and Egyptian; including Saidi and Gawazhi, folkloric (now tribal) and cabaret. Zahava enjoys working with zills, sword and cane.

After a hiatus of over ten years from the dance, this “Wild Child” eternal student, performer and instructor has been very pleased to be affiliated with the talented staff and wonderful students of Oasis Studio since summer of 2001.

Dayna- "Zeina Sadira"

Dayna has been dancing since she was three years old, but it wasn't until 1998 when she attended her first belly dance class with Danielle Bacque that she found her true passion. Dayna enjoys performing many styles of belly dance from the beads and sequins of Egyptian Cabaret to the coins and tassels of ethnic tribal and gypsy fusion. In her Beginner's Belly Dance Class, she teaches the hip and abdominal movements that are fundamental to all styles of belly dance. She believes that you do not need a "perfect" body to belly dance. Instead you need to recognize the innate feminine beauty of your own body regardless of size, shape or age.

Danielle- "Sarite"

Influenced and instructed by some of today's most internationally acclaimed belly dancers, Danielle began teaching the art of belly dance in 1997. She was the first instructor in Lafayette to develop and implement a continuing belly dance program. In her classes, Danielle focuses on precision, isolation, fluidity, posture and grace. By providing a strong foundation in the fundamentals of belly dance, Danielle has trained both dancers and instructors alike.

Jennifer is a member of the Oasis Dance Troupe and Oasis Polynesian troupe, as well as a student of flamenco. Her style is distinguished by her dramatic stage presence and positive attitude.

Regan Coussan

This man in black was an unexpected addition to the Studio, jokingly calling himself "the odd man out" in this world of women and dance. Years of playing the piano, recorder and flute have given him an equally unexpected love and understanding of hand-drumming, especially Middle-Eastern. Instructor of all music that involves "beating on things," his first year with Oasis was a Trial by Fire involving no less than twenty shows between March and June of 2003, including Festival International de Louisiane. Since joining Oasis, Regan has formed and leads

the Oasis Percussion Group. He has received instruction with Shelly Plaissance, whom he regards very highly as teacher and performer. Regan also attended workshops with Gypsy Caravan (OR), Ziad Islambuli(CA), Ishmael, and Jeremiah Soto (CA). Regan is currently studying Polynesian and African drumming, which he hopes to incorporate into the percussion group's repertoire in the future.
